Jodie Whittaker is the thirteenth doctor. We haven’t seen her yet but the Christmas special in which Peter Capaldi regenerates into her has been ordered and is awaited impatiently.
This film will be our introduction to her.
Anna, about to turn thirty, a disgruntled disorganised misfit, lives at the bottom of her mother’s garden in a shed. She makes weird videos.
There’s a mum who wants her gone from the shed, an eccentric nan who supports Anna against the mum’s insistence, a zany friend, an awkward wannabe boyfriend, a dead brother and a motherless boy.
It’s one of those British films cast with endearing and peculiar characters. It’s more sad than funny and has little story. I love it.
This bodes well for the thirteenth doctor. Whittaker displays the perfect mix of quirky vulnerability.
